Seminar with Sifu Richard Bustillo

This is a clip from a seminar with Sifu Richard Bustillo conducted in May 2012.

Sifu Richard Bustillo is probably best known as one of the original students of Bruce Lee, and as one of the founders of the Kali Academy.

Sifu Dan Inosanto and Sifu Bustillo opened the Kali Academy in 1973, to promote the Filipino Martial Arts and to share the Bruce Lee experience. In 1985, the name was changed to the IMB Academy because they felt having Filipino Martial Arts in the name was keeping people away.

The philosophy of the IMB Academy is that the individual is more important than any style or system and offers training in Muay Thai / Boxing, Jeet Kune Do, Escrima (Doce Pares) and grappling (BJJ / submission wrestling) to address the various ranges of combat.

Sifu Bustillo explains that JKD is not a style or system, it’s each individual’s personal way of martial arts.

Just like everybody has their own penmanship or signature (even though you learned the same alphabet, everybody has their own unique personal way of writing).
